Where before was an exclusive touristic destination, Vilamoura becomes more and more a fixed residence town. The avenue Eng. João Meireles is the front door of the city, where its green/nature set, becomes the identity for the rest of the urban developments that sprawl from it…

The avenue divides the city. The residential area in the North and the Retail/Hotel/Leisure sea front area in the South. As it was designed only as a urban gate, it neglected the future expansion. The aim is that the avenue can become a permeable green urban tissue…

The project turned the avenue into a transversal connector, as well as a longitudinal leisure/sports park, with a network of site-specific infrastructures…

The system consists on several fitness platforms, which are intersected here and there by other leisure infrastructures, that attract all the demographics of the city…

Built in the summer of 2008, it has been having a notorious impact on the daily flow of the city, in every season of the year…

Along the renovated path, the multipurpose platforms "float" above the green turf. The wooden deck rises and folds, providing resting areas, signage, drinking fountains, garbage disposals, etc.…

Every platform as a flexible inner area, that can host different types of uses and objects, and change according to each program…

There are a couple of water platforms, providing refreshment, as the temperatures in Vilamoura can be intense during the summer months…

Deeply integrated in the city way of living, fitness plays a great role in the whole development, becomes the main programmatic feature of the full 1.5 km sports/jog lane…

Each fitness platform, is focused on specific types of workout. In most of the cases, the wooden deck adapts to the needs, while also supported by stainless steel plugins…

The VERSO lamp light was designed originally as part of the intervention. Its design follows the same concept of integration, and provides a 24 hour usage of the park…

Since its conclusion in 2008, the city annual reports have been constantly highlighting the impact that this renovation had on the citizen's day-by-day life…

Although surrounded by 4 lanes of traffic, which are the main fluxes of the city arrivals, one can isolate itself, at any time of the day.
